What I’ve Been Reading

It feels like it’s been a long time since I posted about books. Is it just me? I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately (what else is new?), and I’ve read some really good books! I wanted to share them all with you.

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty – so I love this author and have recommended her to a bunch of people (my first pick to suggest is always The Husband’s Secret, which I blogged about here), and most people have loved what they’ve read by her. I’m so excited that this book is an upcoming HBO series, it has a stellar cast and looks so good. This was a fast-paced story told from different perspectives (which I always love). I just put Liane Moriarty’s latest book on my Kindle, so I’ll let you know how it stacks up to the rest of her work once I read it.

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart – I had this book on my Kindle for a while but had yet to read it. I’d put it on there for summer vacation, but for some reason other books took priority over this one. I really enjoyed it, though. It’d come highly recommended from some friends, and I concur with their reviews. This was a really quick read, but it kept me guessing until the very end. I love books with a twist ending like this one! I also love how this centered around a family with an interesting dynamic (although I do think the author could have gotten more into that, maybe). Overall, I definitely recommend checking it out!

Before the Fall by Noah Hawley– this was another one I’d had on my Kindle for a while, and I can’t believe it took me so long to read it. Part of the reason I put it off was because I didn’t want to read it too close to a time when I’d be going on a plane, as this centered around a plane crash. Well, let me tell you. It did not scare me about planes at all (and I can definitely be a nervous flier!). I thought this was a really great read. It was fast paced, engaging, and definitely left me guessing until the end. The only thing I wish was different is that I wish it was longer. More character development and finding out what happened to the characters after the end of the book would have been great. But overall, I really liked it. Now I want to read more by the author! Adding them to my list 🙂

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware – I waited a really long time for this to come off of my library hold list, so when it finally did I was really excited. And as I recently promised, here are my thoughts on the book. So, here’s the thing – I absolutely loved Ruth Ware’s first book, In a Dark Dark Wood (blogged about it here). And my expectations for this book were super high. So, while I really enjoyed this book, I will say that I think I enjoyed In a Dark, Dark Wood more. But, I don’t want that to detract from how great this book was, too. It was definitely an engaging thriller that kept me wondering until the very last minute. I also really liked the characters and thought that the main character was very likable and interesting. If you love thrillers, you should check out this read.

I just noticed as I was reading this that all my read recently books are mysteries and thrillers. I’m also currently reading yet another mystery/thriller called The Kept Woman by Karin Slaughter. I’m still in the very beginning of it, so I will let you know how it is after I’m done. I have a few more books from the library that I’m working through and I am still dying to read Elin Hilderbrand’s new book before the holiday season is over. I can’t believe I’m down to the last few books of 2016 (check out all I’ve read here), and I will write soon about my favorites (and least favorites) of the year. In the meantime, check out the NPR book concierge – it is awesome, and I love the aesthetic of it and how it is divided by categories, too. There are so many book on there that I haven’t read that I will DEFINITELY be adding to my list 🙂

Happy reading!
